In the first episode of Art World, The Creators Project explores Baghdad's independent film scene, following two of its leading directors, Mohamed Al-Daradji (Son of Babylon) and Yahya Al Allaq (War Canister). Iraqi cinema was devastated during the Gulf War, and with continuous conflict in the region since, many artistic endeavors have been put on hold. We see how these prolific filmmakers are producing cinema amid the forgotten industry, using real locations, non-professional actors, and improvised dialogue. We talk with them about the creation of the Iraq Independent Cinema Center, where they work with a team of young filmmakers to produce emotive feature films.
